Exhibitors on exhibit
Artworks by 9 regional gallery-owners go on view this Saturday at Highland's Casa del Arte

   Casa Del Arte in Highland

by Paul Smart

In some lines, you simply don't put all the bigwigs in one room. Think presidents and vice presidents, CEOs and stockbrokers. But not gallery-owners and curators, by the evidence of what the ever-enterprising Elisa Pritzker is up to at her Pritzker Gallery in Highland this Saturday. There, nine leading lights of eight of the region's top galleries will come together for the official opening of a new exhibit of the choosers' own chosen work, titled "Heads & Tails," for a monthlong sojourn at the Casa del Arte on Riverside Road.

Among the art-crowd insiders showing work will be Stuart Bigley of Unison Arts in New Paltz; Evonne Davis of City without Walls in Newburgh; George and Nancy Donskoj of their eponymous - and pioneering - gallery in Kingston's Rondout district; Barbara Esmark of the currently hibernating but still-resonating Be Gallery in High Falls; Joyce Pommer of New York's Chelsea redoubt, the Franklin 54 Gallery; Carl Van Brunt of his own mini-empire in Beacon; Woodstock's Christina Varga; and Pritzker herself.

Among the art to be seen will be the Donskojs' sublime stained glass (his) and photography (hers); Van Brunt's politically edgy Photoshop experiments; Varga's hilariously apropos (and internationally successful) new Varga Girl explosions; and whatever new series Pritzker, a consummate and continuous experimenter, is onto.

The reception where all these luminaries will be on hand with their own art takes place Saturday, November 7 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Pritzker Gallery at 257 South Riverside Road in Highland, just off Route 299. For further information call (845) 691-5506 or visit www.pritzkergallery.blogspot.com.
