This is the week to catch up with the great Schneemann show at SUNY-New Paltz's Dorsky Museum, the better to appreciate all the opportunities to catch the rest of this restless artist available in an afternoon panel discussion, then an evening film screening of her influential film and video works, both at the Rosendale Theatre this Saturday, April 10, beginning at 2 p.m. The discussion on "Carolee Schneemann: Within and beyond the Premises," which runs on April 10 from 2 to 4 p.m., features Emily Caigan of the SUNY-New Paltz Women's Studies Program, Maura Reilly of the American Federation of Arts, exhibition curator Brian Wallace from the Dorsky Museum, independent scholar and author Linda Weintraub, Kenneth White of Stanford University and moderator Patricia Phillips of the Rhode Island School of Design.
Expect Schneemann to be on hand, beaming and hopefully interjecting at times - as is her art form, of a sort. Following the discussion, a selection of the artist's film and video works from the 1960s through the present will be run, also in the Theatre, from 5 to 7 p.m.
The Rosendale Theatre is located at 408 Main Street in Rosendale, (845) 658-8989. For further information, contact the Dorsky by visiting www.newpaltz.edu/museum or calling (845) 257-3844.
