Loretta Lynn seemed legendary years ago, back when Sissy Spacek won a 1980 Oscar playing her in Coal Miner’s Daughter. Then again, she was married at 14, had kids soon after and was a grandmother in her 30s. Moreover, she hit it big from the moment that she started singing about heartaches and bad men, drawing on her East Kentucky upbringing, complete with deep Appalachian music roots.

What’s amazing about Lynn, who is playing a long-awaited sold-out concert at the Ulster Performing Arts Center (UPAC) in Kingston this Friday, March 4 (with reserve tickets still possible) is that she’s also the queen of the eternal comeback – as evidenced by her chart-topping collaboration with Jack White of a few years back. They don’t call her “the First Lady of Country Music” for nothing.

They say that she’s a fireball in concert, and tours with one of the best bands around. Waiting-list tickets are available up until showtime at 8 p.m. this Friday, March 4 by calling either the UPAC box office at (845) 339-6088 or the Bardavon at (845) 473-2072. You can also visit www.bardavon.org.
