Jill Sobule has been cool since she burst on the scene as a promising singer/songwriter whose premiere recording, with the single “I Kissed a Girl,” was produced by Todd Rundgren. She had a hit in Clueless with “Supermodel,” and was seen as the equivalent of the male likes of Warren Zevon, Harry Nilsson, Loudon Wainwright III and Randy Newman. She later became a maverick in the ongoing push away from record companies to online music releases, and has become a mainstay of socially aware benefit music collaborations such as her 2007 version of Neil Young’s “Down by the River” recorded with the legendary John Doe of X fame.
And he, Mr. Doe, is true cool, from his days leading the LA punk group X through his years with his pioneering country/folk/punk band the Knitters through side project the Flesh Eaters to an estimable career as a television and film actor. Now he plays solo, and from all we hear, he’s great – and a nice guy to boot.
The two hit Club Helsinki’s stage in Hudson this \Monday, March 28 at 8 p.m. For more on this handsome venue and its rollicking schedule of all sorts of great acts, located at 405 Columbia Street, call (518) 828-4800 or visit www.helsinkihudson.com.
