The wood-hulled craft has been upgraded through the years, but it never lost its character and retains its lines as a classic boat. The most recent improvement was the interior, which is fitted out in mahogany and includes a four-sided bar, brand-new staircase and fully renovated pilothouse. The Teal, claimed current owner John DeForest – who purchased the boat with his partner and boat captain Joseph Thomas in 2006 – lets you cruise the Hudson in both comfort and style.
Normally, the Teal, which holds 75 passengers, is chartered out for corporate and private parties. However, in celebration of its 50th birthday, it’s offering several upcoming public tours. On June 12, the Kingston Cigar Shoppe will be selling tickets for its annual three-hour Smoke and Float excursion; you can puff to your heart’s content without having to endure glares from non-smokers. That will be followed by a two-and-a-half-hour cruise featuring a performance by blues guitarist and singer Murali Coryell on June 17; tickets are $25. Both events feature a cash bar.
The Teal will also be offering its annual Kingston Fireworks cruise on June 26, which includes a full buffet dinner and a two-hour cruise starting at 7 p.m. After docking at 9, passengers will enjoy a first-rate view of the fireworks from their own private quarters.
