Once again Uptown Kingston is being adorned with works of art in preparation for the outrageously jam-packed second annual O+ Festival of music, art and the arts of medicine. The three-day event takes place October 7, 8 and 9 and will feature music, live performances and short films. More than 30 bands are scheduled to play. If you’d like to read about the event’s genesis, log on to our Almanac website at: http://bit.ly/ovRqCh. If you’d like to know the schedule of events, here it is.

This year’s O+ Festival starts on Friday, October 7. The Lady Esther Gin and Gypsy Sky Brassband will lead the opening ceremony parade from the Kirkland Hotel at 6 p.m., winding around Uptown Kingston in an audacious celebration of frivolity and well-being. The Oo Gallery on Wall Street – headquarters for wristband-ticket sales and Festival information, including a map of all venues – will hold a Capricious opening from 5 to 7 p.m., and the in-house exhibit will be on view all weekend.

And then the music begins. At 7 p.m. it’s Young Magic, Heaven, Ev Darst and Shana Falana at Backstage Studio Productions; Marciana Jones and Sgt. Dunbar & the Hobo Banned will play at Elephant starting at 7:30 p.m.; Keegan Ales hosts Willy Mason, Nicole Atkins & the Black Sea starting at 9:30 p.m.; Lost in Society and American Pinup play at Snapper Magee’s at 11 p.m., and DJ Grasshopper of Mercury Rev will be at Backstage Studio Productions (BSP) at 11 p.m.

On Saturday, October 8, join Jamie Leigh Reilly on Wall Street at 11 a.m. for Kundalini yoga and gong bath at noon, when acoustic previews will play throughout the Farmers’ Market. The O+ Self-Health Seminar opens to the general public from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m., with presentations by four yoga and meditation teachers (some of whom are also licensed psychologists, nutritionists, social workers and counselors). The free seminar will start at the Hudson Valley LGBTQ Community Building at 300 Wall Street. Breakout sessions will take place there, at the Yoga House at 57 Crown Street, at Mudita Yoga at 243 Fair Street, as well as at 311 Wall Street.

At 2 p.m. on Saturday, BSP hosts the Compositions of Pauline Oliveros, the Rick Altman Trio and the Repeatos; a performance titled “Animal Tongues” by Jan Harrison will be at Beahive from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.; an artwalk reception will take place at Elephant at 5 p.m.; Jenna Shaffer will be at Hudson Coffee Traders at 6 p.m.; at 7 p.m. there will be more gong bath on Wall Street, plus Mike & Ruthy’s Folk City featuring the Lonesome Sisters, Spirit Family Reunion and Ida will be at the Old Dutch Church; at 8:15 p.m. BSP hosts Only Son, Jeremy Mage & the Magi and Kevin Allison presents “Risk! True Tales, Boldly Told”; at 9:45 p.m., it’s the Black Hollies and New Zion Trio at Keegan Ales; at 10 p.m. at the Stockade Tavern, deejay Raissa St. Pierre and T. J. Kong & the Atomic Bomb will hold forth; Snapper Magee’s presents Two-Fisted Law and Jukebox Romantics starting at 11 p.m.; and at 11:30 p.m. at BSP, O+ Theque will be presented by bluecashew, featuring DJ Sterling, DJ Dandylion and Ryan Smith.

On Sunday, October 9, start the day with another round of Kundalini and gong bath at 11 a.m.; check in with Linda Mary Montano from noon until 7 p.m. at Xclusive Boutique for art/life counseling; Hudson Pro Musica will be at Boitson’s at noon, with a brunch menu available; and at 2 p.m. LGBTQ will host a Micro+ film festival featuring the animated short Marvin and a special screening of the feature documentary Marwencol. Snapper Magee’s will host El Front, Ruin/Renewal and Geezer starting at 4 p.m.; Szelrozsa, the Virginia Wolves and Sgt. Dunbar & the Hobo Banned will be at BSP starting at 7 p.m.; and the Festival closing party will take place at the Stockade Tavern at 9 p.m.

Don’t miss the ongoing video art series at Wright Gallery Records with Liana Alexandra and Serban Nichifor, Ali Dineen, Arielle Falk, Adie Russell and Tona Wilson; installations by Melissa Halvorson at Beahive, Kymara Lonergan at Xclusive Boutique, Lisa Lozano at the Old Dutch Church Cemetery and Norm Magnusson at 88 Maiden Lane. Art paste-ups can be seen around town by artists Jojo Ans, Laura Battle, Sadee Brathwaite, Gabe Brown, Joe Concra, Karen Constance, Bill Dunlap, Mike Egan, Chris Gonyea, Paul Heath, Scott Holloway, Amber Ibarreche, Laura Johansen, Geddes Jones Paulsen, Derrick McNab, Joseph Mastroianni, Andy Milford, Denise Orzo, Kevin Paulsen, Giselle Potter, Colin Ruel, Jason Sebastian Russo, Benjamin Schikowitz, Bonnie Marie Smith, Joy Taylor, Jim Toia & YEAAAH!, Tim Vermuelen, Ruth Wetzel and Tona Wilson.
