This year’s bear story

A large bear was wrestling with a trash can on Wittenberg Road in western Woodstock. The lid was sealed shut, but the plastic at one corner had been pried back, leaving a hole just large enough for the bear’s paw. I watched the bruin turn the garbage can on its side, pull out two corn cobs, gnaw on them briefly, then reach back into the container. The bear didn’t mind me watching from my car in the opposite lane, but a passing car in the near lane sent it lumbering off, leaving trash strewn across the driveway.
