Woodstock Commons cuts the ribbon

Over the decade and longer it took RUPCO (Rural Ulster Preservation Company) to get approvals for and build its new Woodstock Commons — a time span much mentioned as the affordable and senior housing development off Playhouse Lane behind Bradley Meadows was celebrated with a fancy ribbon cutting ceremony, much speechifying and a feast last Friday, May 3 — protests and lobbying efforts against, and for, the project took many forms. There were heartfelt pleas about what Woodstock had once been, as well as how it needed to embrace new diversity. People spoke about economic need, as well as environmental challenges. There were endless public hearings and comments sessions…and then lawsuits.
