The Saugerties-Kingston-FDR combined junior varsity hockey team hosted the Tri-County Thruway Classic Tournament at the Kiwanis Ice Arena last weekend, October 15-17. A total of 52 players from Orange, Duchess and Ulster counties took part in this exciting event. The Saugerties-Kingston-FDR team was actually comprised of two separate squats: one of them wearing the traditional FDR black jerseys, and the other donned the Kingston “Wolf” jersey. The competition included the Cornwall Dragons and Orange County West team. The Kingston Wolf squad faced off against Cornwall in the final match. It was a heated battle, with the Wolf team scoring first but ultimately falling to 5-3 to the Dragons. Sponsors included Adam’s Fairacre farms, which donated oranges and bananas to keep the players fueled, the Mullen Construction Company, which provided beverages, and the concession stand at Ice Arena for providing meals during the event.
